The Doubling Strategy

Multiplying by 2 is the exact same as adding a number to itself (doubling).

2 × 6 is just 6 + 6 = 12. If you know how to double single digits, you already know the 2 times table.

Multiplication Patterns

  • All multiples of 2 are even numbers.
  • The last digit always cycles predictably: 2, 4, 6, 8, 0, then repeats.
  • Never ends in 1, 3, 5, 7, or 9.

Tips and Tricks

  • Double, double, boil and bubble: just add the number to itself without trouble!
